REAL Restaurants in DC

When I heard about a place called Elizabeth’s Gone Raw  with only raw vegan food, it sounded intriguing enough to try despite being a fan of filet mignon.  When an opportunity presented itself to attend the presentation of DC’s first REAL Restaurants I signed up immediately. Problem is I didn’t make it…but I wanted to share anyway so here are the deets about the REAL restaurants:

The REAL certification is an initiative of the United States Healthful Food Council (USHFC). REAL stands for Responsible Epicurean and Agricultural Leadership and is a certification program to help identify and connect people who want healthful and sustainable food and beverages with the restaurants and other foodservice operations that provide them.

The program is being rolled out in DC initially before launching nationwide- to me, this makes total sense since farmer’s markets and organic produce are popular with the dining crowd in DC. If all of this matters to you, here are the restaurants currently REAL certified in DC. Many are already on my list of places to try so here’s to happy & healthy eating!

  1. You should try Elizabeth’s Gone Raw at some point. I was really dubious when I went (I mean, a whole raw vegan meal?) but it was so good and really filling too.
