Today is the anniversary of the disastrous oil spill that took place in the Gulf of Mexico. With everything that has happened since, its easy to forget and memories of the oil ridden animals and the black shores of Florida suddenly fall into the category ‘out of sight, out of mind’.
Oceana is taking action in DC today to help us remember. At Union Station, employees are out in the street in yellow top to toe garb, handing out stickers and information about their press conference on the Hill today at 10:00am. The staff of Oceana will also stage a mock oil spill clean up and hand out free Oceana t-shirts at Upper Senate Park.
Part of Oceana’s agenda today is to urge Congress to stop offshore drilling. While I remain neutral on that point, I’m glad the yellow clad folks are out in the street today. It’s too early to forget and not too late to still remember. Thank you for the friendly reminder, Oceana.
