In a city like DC, it’s not always easy to find a charity event where you can support a cause by buying affordable VIP tickets and spend the afternoon eating cupcakes….6 cupcakes to be specific. CupcakeCamp allows you to do just that. The event gets bigger and better each year, so if you missed out this time, make a note to attend next year! CupcakeCamp DC is held in support of a local charity- DC Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation. I will happily eat cupcakes all day long to support kids going through a hard time. It’s the least I can do.
I love that the VIP tickets were $10. Yes, that’s right. How amazing. This year, your $10 charity contribution included 6 cupcakes and a cupcake carrier, how convenient and smart! Who doesn’t want to be a VIP now? It’s tough to choose from the variety of cupcakes when flavors range from lavender-lemon to vegan bacon to chicken and waffles. This year, I even sampled an ‘Earl Gray’ tea flavored cupcake, tasted just like the real thing. Perfect for tea lovers. Wonder if I can find a coffee cupcake in this town? Must. Find. Out. Now.
The winning cupcake happened to also be my favorite- an original and oh-so-yummy ‘Chicken and Waffles’ creation by baker Joel. The event recap is not up on the blog yet, but I’m sure to come soon. There were also some improvements to think about for next year, including lighting, baker station positioning, list of bakers in the program, better organization of prize giving and raffle drawing. The most important thing, however, is that the event raised over $2,000 for the DC Candlelighters this year and I’m sure more money will be raised again next year. I’ll be there to eat cupcakes again, that’s for sure.
