February is packed with fun holidays and multiple excuses to buy gifts for
oneself others. Gift guides are showing up everywhere, this one being one of my favorites as it features local DC bloggers. The restaurant scene is as usual in on the giving game and Open Table has a handy listing of where you can book a table and enjoy a special Valentine’s Day food selection. Oysters and chocolate galore I fear.
To help you out with this gift giving thing, I wanted to highlight a gift appropriate for special ladies and gents alike. Before starting my grad school application process and enforcing a self-inflicted hiatus from blogging, I attended a tasting+book party of the newly published book ‘Washington DC Chef’s Table‘ at Corcoran Uncorked. The event was at capacity- who says no to ‘free’ food and the promise of a gift bag? Not this lady.
With small but delicious bites featured by food institutions such as Baked and Wired, Ben’s Chili Bowl, CakeLove, Co Co. Sala, Equinox Restaurant, Hula Girl Truck, Jaleo DC, MASA 14, Matchbox, Ted’s Bulletin, Ris DC, Zaytinya, and Zengo, the crowd eagerly circulated around the gorgeous atrium space to grab what food was available. The beauty of this book however is that you now have the key to recreate these restaurant dishes in your very own kitchen. So get your ingredients ( err…or just give the book as a gift) and prepare to woo that special someone!
Beth Kanter (author) and Emily Pearl Goodstein ( photographer ) have a busy book signing season ahead. Stay up to date on where you can snag an autograph and talk food with other foodies by following the book’s Facebook page.
